Come on down to Glen Waverley Uniting Church, cnr Bogong Ave and Kingsway, Glen Waverley (Mel Ref 71 C3). You can come and learn the songs, meet some of the writers and have a ball from 2pm, $5 dinner is at 6pm and at 7pm the recording button is hit and we will be on our way to creating one of the best CD/DVDs going around!

So come and be a part of it! Bring all your friends and families! More info at ncyc.org.au and morefocus.org.au! NCYC Live Recording Video

avaaz action - save zimbabwe

On Friday, 27th June, Zimbabwe will hold a cruel sham of a vote for President. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has just withdrawn from the run-off — not in a concession of victory, but rather in recognition that Mugabe’s campaign of violence and terror has erased any hope for a democratic election.

But against the odds, hope survives. Amidst growing international pressure, Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party and the opposition have entered private talks. A unity government may be possible yet.

The United Nations Security Council unanimously held on Monday that free and fair elections are now impossible in Zimbabwe. The UN Secretary-General spoke out. But it is African leaders, most of all Thabo Mbeki, who hold the key. Even Mugabe cannot cling to power without their cooperation. Today, we’re launching an emergency campaign, petitioning these leaders to call an immediate summit, isolate Mugabe, and broker a legitimate government for Zimbabwe. Our call will be published in big newspaper advertisements in South Africa, Tanzania, Angola, and Mozambique this week — click here to see the ads and endorse their message:

Rewind…

June 20, 2008

Great post over at shauninmann.com in regards to a passage from Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five:

It was a movie about American bombers in the Second World War and the gallant men who flew them. Seen backwards by Billy, the story went like this:

American planes, full of holes and wounded men and corpses took off backwards from an airfield in England. Over France, a few German fighter planes flew at them backwards, sucked bullets and shell fragments from some of the planes and crewmen. They did the same for wrecked American bombers on the ground, and those planes flew up backwards to join the formation.

Every time you lose a sock, think of a landmine victim.

June 12, 2008

Landmines and explosive remnants of war kill or injure nearly 15,000 people every year. You can help them by contributing to the Lost Sock Appeal.

The Lost Sock Appeal is an initiative from the Australian Network to Ban Landmines (ANBL). We’re collecting money fro assisting victims, clearing minefields and campaigning to ensure ne more mines are made, traded or laid.

If you have an odd sock in your drawer, put some spare change in it and hand it to our volunteers….

MPH -Internship

June 4, 2008

Got this in an email today…

For the first time, Make Poverty History is offering enthusiastic supporters the opportunity to work as interns on the Make Poverty History campaign.

You will gain professional campaigning experience, work with like-minded people and have an even greater impact on making poverty history.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to focus on a specific role, lead a group of volunteers and provide assistance to the Campaign Co-ordinators and specialist campaign teams (for example Climate Change and Maternal and Child Health).

The internships are six months in length from June to December 2008.

The placement would be ideal for university students but all applications are welcome and will be considered. All internships are based in Melbourne.

What are you waiting for? Applications close on 11 June.

Find out more here.
