This years Green Nativity

December 19, 2008

So my kids have continued their tradition of arranging the Nativity set prophetically.

This year I am guessing it is about climate change and global warming. I assume the globe was included as a protest around our Governments piddly 5% carbon reduction by 2020.

Photos from todays action

December 19, 2008

As you can see we had our sweatshop free carols today. Tis good for the soul to carol for work justice.

‘Conveniently’ the window cleaner came and we were informed by the police that we needed to free up the windows. :)

Another high point was the Union Solidarity Santa - he was a Jolly fellow with a bag of coal.

morefriends

December 10, 2008

Hi guys,

Down the bottom left of the home page of morepraxis is ‘morefriends’.

It is a cute little social networking idea that doesn’t need facebook or whatever and has no ads. People can join up and have side conversations etc or simply show that they are a? fan/friend within the morepraxis network.

Not sure where it will lead but seems a good addition as a GTKY space. :)

The FairWear Sweat Free Christmas Carols

December 4, 2008

FairWear invites you to FairWear Sweat Free Christmas Carols!

FairWear has been making its list, and checking it twice, trying to find out who?s been naughty and nice to outworkers and clothing workers this year! And have we got a big bag of coal for ?Rich? and ?Mesop?!!

?Rich? and ?Mesop? have been getting fat indeed on paying Australian workers $14 per hour (well below the award wage), to make high fashion garments that are retailing for more than $700!

So come and join us on the 19th December, the week before Christmas, to sing some carols and present a bag of coal (the traditional stocking filler for naughty children at Christmas time) to the ?Rich? and ?Mesop? retail outlet.

6:00 pm

The upper room project meets the first Monday of each month (6:-8:30pm) to engage with spirituality and justice as struggled with and fought for by the Prophets and Jesus. We meet upstairs in the Shine Caf?/Bar (74 Kingsway Glen Waverley) with gallery space, discussion corners, opportunity for practical response and pondering space.

We hope the upper room will be

Space to rest/relax with your tribe
Be challenged by the prophetic call of compassion
Connect with heartbeats for living
There will be food, wine and friends plus

a gallery space for photos and other art.
activist space - activities, information and people deeply into that topic to meet
conversational space - multimedia and communally led (an interview, music, texts, a place to chat)
Please bring your friends - all are welcome

This month is a bit of an end of year fling plus thinking about consumption, Environment Victoria?s Sustainable Festive. And art space focusing on World AIDS Day.
(Come and have conversations about next year’s issues/people and )
