Batman Begins

“You always fear what you don’t understand”
“To conquer fear you must become fear, you must bask in the fear of other men.”
“Your compassion is a weakness that your enemies will not share”
“That’s why it’s so important… It’s what separates us from them”
“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines you me”
“I can only offer you a path”
I always expect a lot from these types of movies, and Batman Begins did not let me down. Previously I had enjoyed the first two Batman movies, but as the franchise got bigger and more sequels were created the storylines went weird and the franchise failed.
This movie signaled hope that the Dark Knight might protect the streets of Gotham once again. And the movie did not let anyone down, the city of Gotham, the story line , the costumes, the characters, the death of Bruce’s family, all of which were faithful to the early Batman comics. This movie is thoroughly enjoyable and, now that it’s on dvd I’m sure that it will be a regular feature on my television. As in any good superhero story there are many themes in this movie, fear, journey, choices, masks and justice are all explored in the variety of characters portrayed. I’ll now spend some time exploring the themes for discussion.
