Café Praxis @ NCYC – Café Praxis will be open during festival time + night life and is the place to be for fair trade caffeinated conversations. Arty types, theologians, wonderers, activists, and co travellers on the radical discipleship journey will find themselves at this watering hole. Come and change your world one cup at a time and one conversation at a time.

This is a ‘before’ picture of our space.

We will be running as a cafe during festival time and night life.
During Festival time we will be a cafe and I will run my elective in a corner.
During night life we can create a themes sacred space - project on that big wall down the side, have things of tables, ground and gather friends to have intentional conversation with us and delegates.

Interested? We have a small but growing mob of friends starting to think about the cafepraxis and to help make some liberated lattes. Also we will have NCYC adult volunteers to help make the coffees.

A quick chat at the upperroom led to this vauge shape of themes below - the start of our brains thinking about our space.

If we follow the ncyc themes - which work well for us…

THINK

  • Day 1 converge - Welcome to the conversation
  • Day 2 Merge - Goodnews
  • Day 3 Urge (with indigenous mobs runninglots) - Reconciliation /close the gap etc

ACT

REFLECT

  • Day 5 Emerge -Reflect on day of action and service
  • Day 6 Verge - Going the Distance (With who and how will we continue in our passion

Below is a conversation menu for the tables (Side 1 & 2 we put the questions/thoughts/whatever side 3 the prices for the cafe) People like? Idea etc

Just think of all the left-over Christmas lights you could use! Get in on the boxing day returns!!

I’ll be around as much as I can, I’ll be a community leader at NCYC and will probably have my hands full at certain times, but I’ll be able to play and make up some coffees and kick around some theological conversations…

    Excellent!
Great to have you hang with us Daz.

Maybe we could base some of the mobile worship/flash worship ideas we have kicked about from the cafe. Theme packs or sms udated instructions like - everyone stop and say the lords prayer as 12:15pm :)

    Hey Rus
I have some fairy light already but am keen to grab solar lights to throw light up the walls/garden. :)

So keep eyes open - people.

any chance someone can knock up a few hundred give (way) signs?

could have them all over the place for people to add to, or to place around the entire venue…

Neil S. is happy to buy mega-cheap solar christmas lights from Dick Smith where he’s working… I think Diane is going to grab some for Festival/Nightlife also, so bulk-buy-discount maybe?

Yep I have had a chat with Neil about solar lights he is checking out the throw of the types as we want that up the walls. They have fairy lights but I think we need garden or spot types.

I made a quick mock up of a table menu thingy for cafepraxis. I am now looking for some ways into the nights themes for people.

A few Questions or a Reflection and question on side1?
Maybe an image to reflect on side 2 or a reflection?
Maybe 3 pictures on side 2 and a reflections and questions on side 1?

    Thoughts?

what about something along the lines of ‘have a coffee with……’ tables. Each table could be themed and when you choose to sit down in a particular space, you do so in solidarity with a particular person or persons to whom that table is dedicated. on each table there could be an opportunity to engage with issues, donate coins to an empty coffee cup, sign a petition, etc, etc….
    too wanky?
What about turning the coffee machines off for one night and serving tap water with all proceeds going to coffee plantation workers or others who may have to settle with water rather than long macs?
    excited as always xoxo:-)

    I like the have a coffee with….
it’s hard to plan who we will have on which night?? People seem to have heaps of different jobs but are willing to play with us.

That’s why I thought that at about 9pm each night we welcome and introduce/highlight the interesting people available to chat with.
    or
did you mean by interest area “have a coffee with ’simple living’” or ‘fairtrade’,'micro development’ ‘activist bible types’ :)
    That could work.

We should have generally interesting people like yourself, Rod, Meaghan, Niki and me there fairly often.

Selling Water…. sounds fun and much easier.

Di spoke about a petition ‘mail box’ to post various petitions in. I wonder if that is still on and maybe we need a petition wall to gather all sorts on…..

Plus the final rush with submersion day stuff.

Thanks to everyone that made the cafe work. Hope you all had good conversations and now those making the coffee can stop dreaming of frothing milk :)

Big thanks to Rod and Leanne for being a key hosts while I chased my tail with other bits.

Got something to say?
