Upperroom - Faiths
August 28, 2008

The Upper Room Project meets the first Monday of each month (6-8:30pm) to engage with spirituality and justice as struggled with and fought for by the Prophets and Jesus. We meet upstairs in the Shine Café/Bar (74 Kingsway Glen Waverley) with gallery space, discussion corners, opportunity for practical response and pondering space.
We hope the upper room will be
- Space to rest/relax with your tribe
- Be challenged by the prophetic call of compassion
- Connect with heartbeats for living
There will be food, wine and friends plus
- a gallery space for photos and other art.
- activist space - activities, information and people deeply into that topic to meet
- conversational space - multimedia and communally led (an interview, music, texts, a place to chat)
Please bring your friends - all are welcome
This month we will be thinking about the different faiths. We will have the info, resources and a discussion guide with reflections from ‘Speaking of Faiths’ and view doc of the Chicago Inter Faith youth Core. There was some chatter about a group of young people who were interviewed from a few different faiths but I don’t think they will be with us. Also, some interesting images to spark conversations.
Cya there.

Upperroom - New Venue Search & Review
August 5, 2008

Ok Guys Last night I found out that the S-bar has sold. So a big thanks to the S-Bar owners and staff for being great hosts. Now of course, we will need to find a new home for the upperroom. So next month we will be in a different space. somewhere???
Assuming people want to keep going.
So this also creates a natural space to have review of the upper room project.
What is good,useful etc?
What needs work?

Praxis08 - Let’s Shape It
July 26, 2008
Hi guys
There has been a bit of a chatter between those who said they would organise this years gathering.
The toasted stories around campfires seemed very popular as did informal discussion time and the space to pray and relax with family and like minded or at least interesting people. Having content was good, as was free time and including families was great.
The idea that seems to have legs is to free up the program even more to engage the passions and talents of those there.
How? Good Question.
Currently we think that food should be programmed into the mix and that the arrival of food could be used as a gathering point to invite people to the various options. So if no one comes to that option the host just flows into a group they have an interest for - that conversation may arise later over a drink in the eve.
What Options? Good Question.
To find out what are our passions and talents - we are playing with two questions and hope to see a good think:act:reflect:community mix appear.
- Q1 - What do you get asked about or lead other in?
- Q2 - What would like to engage with over this gathering?
Q1 helps us see what people are good at or engaging and Q2 picks up the interests of those gathering.
Current options floating around are, building a sand prayer labyrinth, a Bible Study, VJ workshop, a tea ritual, mess around in the canoes with the mind bending questions again, becoming a movement, a water ritual, plan a political stunt/action,some design thing, an art space and exhibition, open mic, a round table, reflections on being arrested for Jesus, go swimming, finish early to join a peace action, spiritual formation group time, local and OS mission, basketball comp, faith talk cards with the kids, play the Ched Myers DVD…… got some ideas yet?
So answer the questions and help build the program.
Offer to lead or suggest another to lead…. lets make sure we get into what we want to get into.

Our new look
July 1, 2008
Hi guys so what do you think of the new look for morepraxis?
As you can see there is now
- a front page with up to 4 feature posts at the top under morepraxis think:act:reflect. Click on the words and see.
- a space for a youtube feature clip and the most recent posts down the side
- a photo line feed that you can add images of our adventures from your own flickr site http://www.flickr.com/groups/morepraxis/
- All the rest of the features you know and love are still inside.
We still have a bit stuff to do but we are pretty much fully functional in our new funky skin
A big THANKS to Mike and his web monkey magic.
Anbar Province Suicide Bombing - Zoriah
July 1, 2008

I received the good news from Zoriah, (the photojournalist who took the picture for our AIDS and Love, Hope, Peace, Joy series) that he survived the suicide attack in Anbar. He was down the street when the blast occurred. Zoriah posted his story of the aftermath including photographs of the scene today on his blog: www.zoriah.net
“My hands still shake and my heart pounds despite my fatigue. A combination of depression, fear, and adrenaline makes my thoughts race with the realization that a simple decision was the only thing that seperated me from a body count that grows daily. I look at the images I took on the 26th of June, and realize they do nothing to capture the emotion of being an eyewitness to the aftermath of the Al-Qaeda suicide attack in Karmah/Garma… the smell… the sound of screams and crying.” Continue reading here
It is really sobering to think how close war is to each of us. I guess that’s why we try not to think like that. But reality is - it is happening and it is real and we are all interconnected. I feel like I should write ‘The images in the link are confronting’ but what would we expect from a suicide attack.
Zoriah - thanks for opening our eyes.
