Well it happened!!!!? It seems a weird mix of emotions that saying ‘sorry’ wells in me the need to celebrate.

I’m sure most have seen it but just in case.

I’m very impressed with the Prime Minister’s apology. It had heart, emotion, was hard hitting and, thankfully, didn’t beat around the bush.

Sitting here crying at the computer. This throws my comfortable cynicism and lack of faith in our political leaders on it’s head. How can anything other than the spirit of Christ have bought about this wonderful moment?

Yeah, it felt a bit like a dream. I like thousand of others have hoped, prayed and lobbied for these words while somewhere deep inside lingered the thought they would never come from the mouth of our PM in my lifetime. I like the direction of this dream – don’t wake me just yet :)

My comfortable cynicism and lack of faith in Christianity made me want to respond to angry young thing’s comments about the spirit of Christ (when you leave the church like I’ve done, there are a couple of phrases that hit certain ‘cynicism buttons’) – except that once I got over my high horse and started to actually put together a form of words… I have to admit, the PM is actually motivated by Christ, and the very aspects of Christ that make Christianity a good thing!

Rudd ought to be congratulated for not only having instigated a wonderful mood of healing for our Nation, but for acting in a way which – as much as I hate to say it – stands as testament to the beautiful nature of Christ.
